‘Let thy food be thy medicine and thy medicine be thy food’ - Hippocrates
What is Food Therapy?
Nutrition plays a key part of optimal health in any pet. At Paws in Balance, we focus on species appropriate diets to enhance all therapies and provide a good foundation of health. There is healing power in food - both for you and your pet!
Our recommendations are based on natural nutrition ideals combined with Chinese Medicine Food Therapy. Food Therapy is one of the five branches of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), along with Acupuncture, Herbal medicine, Qi-Gong and Tui–Na.
Like other tenets of TCM the ultimate goal of food therapy is to restore and maintain balance in the body. Diet plans are tailored to individual patients based on their unique tendencies, age, species, geographical location, personality, and current disharmony or disease process. Food ingredients are chosen based on their energetic properties, which include both thermal energetic property and taste. Although the effects are slower compared to other modalities, there are virtually no side effects when food ingredients are chosen correctly.
By selecting dietary ingredients based on their energetic abilities, daily food can be a major help in treating diseases and assure a better quality of life for our patients. This can range from fresh food toppers to their current diet, other fresh food supplements or even an entirely new diet in some cases.
